A life that feels true

Private life coaching for gay men whose lives may work on the outside but no longer feel fully true on the inside.

You may appear successful, capable and in control while underneath you feel restless, constrained or disconnected from yourself.

You may be facing a decision that will not settle, repeating a pattern you understand but cannot seem to change, or realising that the person you have learned to be no longer fits who you are becoming.

The reason may have little to do with sexuality. But the experience of adapting, editing or proving yourself can shape how you approach work, relationships, confidence and change.

I help you slow things down, see what is actually happening and move through the fears, patterns or compromises keeping you from living more freely and truthfully.

Private life coaching

I’m Gary Shaw, a qualified life coach, PGA Professional and founder of LGBT Golf, based in London. I specialise in working with gay men navigating uncertainty, transition, inner conflict or a growing sense that something needs to change.

My coaching is calm, personal and direct. It combines careful listening, honest questioning and practical action.

This is not motivational hype, forced positivity or a formula for optimising every part of your life. It is careful, honest work: going beneath the immediate problem, understanding the fear or pattern at its root and finding a way forward that feels genuinely your own.

Sessions are available online and in London.

My practice is centred on gay men and openly shaped by my lived experience as a gay man. I also welcome people of any sexuality or gender who connect with this approach and value openness, self-acceptance and an affirming coaching relationship.

Why I coach

Golf has shaped much of my life. I became a PGA Professional and built my working life around coaching, performance and improvement. But my own experience taught me that external achievement is not the same as living a life that feels true.

Coming out at 22 forced me to confront that distinction personally. It began more than a decade of exploring authenticity, awareness, presence and Taoist philosophy. A profound experience of presence in 2018 changed how I understood fear, effort and freedom.

I later completed the Advanced Diploma in Personal, Leadership and Executive Coaching at Kingstown College, graduating with Distinction.

Founding LGBT Golf grew from the same conviction: people are freer to learn, change and perform when they do not have to edit who they are.

My coaching brings that lived experience and professional training together. It creates a space to face what is actually true, see the patterns beneath the surface and make change without theatre, judgement or pretence.
